QuickBooks wanted a new social design approach that would bring an approachability and vibrancy reflective of their customer base: Small Business Owners. We drew on inspiration from these SBOs to develop a design language that is friendly, conversational and optimistic. The grounding elements of this system are vibrant colors, a mix of two typefaces to convey conversation, and graphic elements that spotlight the SBOs and their businesses.

We introduced the animation of copy as a way to command attention, and incorporate the feel of conversation by animating each letter as if it were being typed.

Our design elements hero the small business owner, their tools and environment. They begin to tell the person’s story and provide visual texture across the feed.
